The Crockett & Jones Portman is a single monkstrap with a special twist. Part of their handgrade collection, these shoes are defined by the refinements typically found at the highest levels of shoemaking, such as closed channel stitching and asymmetrical lasts. The sleek 358 last and extended vamp make this shoe one of Crockett & Jones’ most elegant offerings. The Portman differs from other monkstraps in that it does not require the visible monkstrap to fasten. These shoes can be slipped on and then held in place by a hidden piece of elastic. This fastening method eliminates most of the instep issues one can experience with a regular pair of monkstraps. The brown suede makes this a very versatile shoe, as it can be worn with jeans and, thanks to the elegant last, just as well with a casual suit.

Crockett & Jones produces 2 series, the so-called "main collection" and the "handgrade collection". Both lines have a goodyear welted construction which gives each shoe exceptional strength, durability and wearing comfort. This method was invented centuries ago by artisans. In eight production stages, each pair of shoes undergoes more than 200 individual operations. This process takes about eight weeks, for the handmade collection the process can take up to 10 weeks, but this also results in the highest quality and a tailor-made look.
